More than half of Britons think Liz Truss should resign as prime minister, and 80% blame the government for the rising cost of living, PA Media reports.

In an Ipsos poll conducted last weekend, 53 percent of respondents said Truss should resign, while only 20 percent opposed her resignation.

A few months before his resignation, Boris Johnson recorded similar numbers, with 50% to 59% saying he should resign within 2022.

A poll of 1,000 British adults between Oct. 14 and 17 found that only 13% of Britons think Truss can win the next election.

"The challenges continue for Liz Truss and the Conservative party, with falling public confidence in both her political leadership and in the government’s economic plans," said Gideon Skinner, head of political research at Ipsos.

Only 14% of those surveyed think new Treasury Secretary Jeremy Hunt will change the economy for the better.

The government has previously tried to blame global conditions and the war in Ukraine for Britain's economic woes. But an Ipsos poll found that 80 percent of Britons think government policies have contributed to the rising cost of living, and the war in Ukraine was a factor.

Some 79% said the state of the global economy also played a role, while nearly two-thirds think Brexit played a role.
