An unidentified armed woman attempted to break into the presidential palace complex in Jakarta, ANTARA news agency reported.
According to the agency, the 30-year-old woman attempted to enter the Merdeka Presidential Palace on Tuesday morning. The presidential security officers on duty noticed the woman's suspicious behavior and began to follow her actions closely.
After an unsuccessful attempt to go around the palace fence, the unidentified woman snatched a gun from under her clothing and pointed it at the military. The security officer, Dua Angga Prayog, immediately had her in his sights. Soon the unknown woman was disarmed.
The Presidential Security Service handed the woman over to the Indonesian police for further investigation.
Indonesian presidential chief of staff Moeldoko said that the arrested woman acted independently and was not part of an organized terrorist group.
Moeldoko explained that the woman's weapon was homemade, adding that authorities are investigating the intruder's motives and goals.
