The phrase about signing a peace treaty by the end of the year is not a consequence of the agreement as such; it is some kind of tacit deadline that both sides have wishes for. The speaker of the National Assembly (NA) of Armenia noted about this to reporters in the NA Wednesday—and referring to the statements that a peace treaty should be signed between Armenia and Azerbaijan before the end of the year.

"I also want us [Armenia] to sign a peace treaty as soon as possible. A peace treaty should be concluded as soon as possible. I repeat: Armenia's 29,800 square kilometers are a red line for us," said Alen Simonyan.

And asked whether the Armenian side will posit a precondition that it will not sign any peace treaty until the Azerbaijani army withdraws from the sovereign territory of Armenia, Simonyan responded: "Azerbaijani troops must immediately leave all the territories that are the internationally recognized territory of Armenia; this is the first point in all our international meetings. I don't want to speak within the framework of the peace treaty because I'm not the foreign minister. I don't want to set any preconditions, but it is definitely clear how to move forward in other circumstances; this is not up for debate."
