The commander of the Lithuanian Armed Forces Valdemaras Rupsys suggests not to transfer Lithuanian PzH 2000 howitzers and NASAMS air defense systems to Ukraine, Lrt.lt reports.

"I need to have instruments. We cannot accomplish tasks without the capability to do so, but the capability we have is on that line when we cannot undress anymore,” the lieutenant general said at the Pabrade training ground.

“I’ll make this proposal. We have to look for other means of support,” he added.

Rupsys also said that Vilnius could support Kiev with weapons if new weapons could be purchased soon and replaced those already in use.

“We need to understand that we also have NATO commitments. We have clearly stated the units we are contributing to NATO. This must include indirect fire capability or field artillery, manoeuvre units with firepower, and air defence to provide support as a host nation,” Rupsys said.

Lithuania is considering transferring howitzers and air defense systems after receiving Ukraine's request. However, critics say the transfer of the aforementioned weapons would undermine Lithuania's recently acquired military capabilities.
