The death toll from the terrorist attack on the Shah Cheragh shrine in Shiraz has risen to 15, Press TV reported.

At least 40 people were injured in an attack on the Shah Cheragh shrine in Shiraz, a vast funerary monument and pilgrimage site dating back to the 12th century.

The Fars provincial police chief said one assailant fired indiscriminately at pilgrims inside the shrine, and he himself was wounded and arrested by security personnel.

Nour news agency, affiliated with Iran's top security agency, reported that the gunman who carried out the attack was a foreigner.

Earlier it was reported that three terrorists attacked visitors to the people's shrine.

According to IRNA, the attack killed two children and a woman. Their identities have not been revealed yet.

Meanwhile, an eyewitness said loud shouts were heard in the women's section of the shrine during the azan (call to prayer), after which an armed man with a Kalashnikov appeared and opened indiscriminate fire.

According to an eyewitness, after the first round the attacker started shooting at those present.
