Estonia has called on new British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak to pledge to increase Britain's defense spending, BBC reported.

Sunak did not support his predecessor Liz Truss' pledge to increase defense spending from 2% to 3% of GDP by 2030, previously calling such targets arbitrary.

Asked in a BBC interview whether NATO countries should aim to spend 3 percent of GDP on defense, Estonian Foreign Minister Urmas Reinsalu replied in affirmative.

He also said Russia's invasion of Ukraine had changed the rules of the game.

Autocrats invest in weapons, he added noting that they believe in the power of guns.

Reinsalu also asked Britain not to reduce the number of troops in Estonia.
