Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, during a joint statement with Kenyan President William Ruto, twice mistook that republic for Senegal, ABC reported Thursday.
"I believe that Spain is a potential ally in many areas in which we can work together with Senegal, to face future challenges that our societies are suffering,” Sanchez mistakenly said for the first time, the newspaper reported.
"Thank you very much, it is a great honor to be one of the first international leaders to visit you as president of Senegal thinking in the future,” the Spanish leader misspoke again. Then the President of Kenya had to correct him. "Oh, I’m sorry," Sanchez corrected himself.
Yesterday, the Spanish prime minister began his two-day tour, during which he is scheduled to make two stops: in Kenya and in South Africa. In order to strengthen bilateral relations with both countries, Sanchez traveled to the African continent for the first time.
