Russia will continue its mediation efforts for the signing of a peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Valentina Matviyenko, Chairperson of the Russian Federation Council, stated this during her meeting with Sahiba Gafarova, speaker of the Azerbaijani parliament.

Matviyenko emphasized that Russia and President Vladimir Putin—personally—are making efforts for a peaceful resolution of differences between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

"We will support the decision that will contribute to the establishment of peace in the region and shall take into account the interests of both sides. Russia will continue to provide assistance so that the two countries reach the signing of the peace treaty," said the chairperson of the Russian Federation Council.
