Not a single meeting of the Lazarevsky Club has been held without the discussion of the Nagorno-Karabakh issue. Bako Sahakyan, former President of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh), noted this in his address at the Lazarevsky Club meeting being held in the format of a Yerevan-Moscow videoconference.

According to Sahakyan, the Lazarevsky Club has always discussed the past, present and future of Nagorno-Karabakh, and this is a completely objective approach.

"Karabakh has always played, is playing, and will continue to play one of the key roles in the history and geopolitics of Transcaucasia, the Armenian people and statehood. It is difficult to overestimate the role of Karabakh in ensuring the military and strategic balance in the region, forming a safe and predictable geopolitical configuration—including for the Russian Federation.

Dear friends, today we are experiencing a turning point in history. Our countries and peoples are facing deep security threats. We are facing a serious choice: either to take into account the rapidly changing world order, to introduce significant corrections in our activities, or to ignore the ongoing changes; this will have dangerous consequences," said Sahakyan.

 Among other things, he pointed to the danger of "courtship" policy, calling for the elimination of mistakes and miscalculations which will have irreversible consequences.

According to Bako Sahakyan, forces have arisen in the region that intend to change the political landscape of the Caucasus, push Russia, out and destroy the Armenian statehood. And the main component of success for them is the destruction of Nagorno-Karabakh.

"This cannot be allowed. And as long as there is a chance, it is necessary to take appropriate steps with joint efforts. It is necessary to rule out mistakes and miscalculations which will have irreversible consequences," Sahakyan noted.

He believes that in order to prevent such consequences and to neutralize the existing threats, a principled and maximally active policy needs to be conducted.
