YEREVAN. – Speaker of the National Assembly (NA) of Armenia, Alen Simonyan, summed up the two-day work at the press briefing following the plenary session of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly, the NA informs Armenian News-NEWS.am.

Simonyan noted that he presented his colleagues with detailed information about the situation in the South Caucasus, and pointed to the incidents related to Azerbaijan's September armed aggression against the sovereign territory of Armenia.

He emphasized that this military aggression on September 13 was carried out by Azerbaijan in the sovereign territory of Armenia, and therefore the internationally recognized borders of Armenia were violated.

"We believe that the use of force or the threat of force undermines the processes being implemented in the region aimed at establishing peace and security in the South Caucasus. The political assessment of the situation, which will be presented by our colleagues, is also important to Armenia," said Simonyan.

According to the head of the Armenian parliament, cooperation within the framework of interparliamentary organizations is also important to the NA of Armenia, and the latter’s MPs are represented in all ten standing committees of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly.

The speaker of the Armenian NA assured that the delegation of Armenia will actively participate in the joint work of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly—and aimed at the modernization of legislation, and cooperation in the humanitarian and cultural spheres.
