Russia's position regarding the status of Nagorno-Karabakh fully corresponds to the approach of the Armenian government. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated this in the National Assembly, at Wednesday’s joint session of parliamentary standing committees, during the latter’s debates on the draft 2023 state budget of Armenia.

The PM recalled one of the last statements by Russian Ambassador to Armenia Sergey Kopirkin, who had said that the matter of deciding the status of Nagorno-Karabakh should be put off indefinitely.

Pashinyan agreed to this approach, noting only that as of today there is no possibility to secure the status, especially one that would be acceptable to all parties to the conflict. According to him, the Kremlin also has a similar position.

"To what extent does the policy of the government of Armenia correspond to this vision? I must say that by 100 percent. In our opinion, this is correct," said the premier.

According to Pashinyan, that is why the Armenian government continues to raise the three main components: the safety of the people of Nagorno-Karabakh, as well as the rights and status issues.

"You have noticed that during the discussions we ‘moved’—so to speak—the issue of status, and now we are talking about it at the very end. You will ask why. Because we have agreed with our Russian colleagues that this issue should not be raised as of today, as it may lead to an inevitable crisis," he added.

Pashinyan said his recent meeting with Russian President Putin and Azerbaijani leader Aliyev in Sochi, Russia, was important and useful. As per the Armenian premier, it contributed to the promotion of the peace agenda.
