Making the fixed-term service in the Russian army two years will enable better quality training of servicemen, State Duma member from Crimea Mikhail Sheremet told RIA Novosti.

"The current format does not ensure the quality training of the soldier. Teaching and preparing in one year is very difficult and problematic, whereas two years is a completely optimal option. This is a required and necessary measure that should be implemented in a short period of time in order to increase the combat-readiness of our army," said Sheremet.

Also, he considered it possible that the proposal to extend the term of military service in Russia can be submitted for debates by the members of the State Duma.
