The United States has become the second largest supplier of blue fuel to the European Union, providing it in liquefied form (LNG), after Norway, said the executive vice president of the European Commission (EC) Valdis Dombrovskis.

His remarks came at an economic conference of the Bank of Latvia, broadcast on the EC's website.

Dombrovskis recalled that supplies from Russia, which had been a major exporter for the EU, had declined.
