Russian President Vladimir Putin during a telephone conversation with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan assured him that there were no plans to use nuclear weapons in Ukraine, the Turkish leader's official spokesman, İbrahim Kalın, said this on Thursday.

"During telephone talks, the Russian side assured Turkey of no plans to use nuclear weapons. The Ukrainian side, in turn, denied allegations of preparations to use 'dirty weapons,'" Kalın was quoted by TRT television as saying.

According to the Turkish presidential spokesman, Ankara intends to propose to the parties to the conflict to return to negotiations on a peaceful settlement.
