German Chancellor Olaf Scholz called on China to exert influence over Russia. During a meeting with Scholz in Beijing, Chinese leader Xi Jinping said that Scholz's visit comes at a time when the two countries are celebrating more than 50 years of diplomatic relations.
The international situation is complex and volatile now, state-run broadcaster CCTV reported referring to Xi Jinping.

According to the Chinese leader, as influential powers, China and Germany must work together in times of change and chaos to make a greater contribution to world peace and development.

He noted that as influential powers, China and Germany must work together in times of change and chaos to make a greater contribution to peace and development around the world.

Xi Jinping added that China supports Germany and the EU in playing an important role in advancing peace negotiations and promoting a balanced, effective and sustainable European security system.

The international community, he said, should call on all parties concerned to show reasonableness and restraint, to establish direct contacts as soon as possible and to create conditions for the resumption of negotiations and jointly oppose the use or threat of use of nuclear weapons.

For his part, Scholz noted that the war in Ukraine has turned the world's food and energy markets upside down.

He said he told the Chinese leader that it is important for China to influence Russia.

Scholz also said he raised the issue of human rights and market access, and told Xi Jinping that any change in Taiwan's status would have a negative impact on our world order, he said.

By using nuclear weapons, Russia will cross the line, he said.

Scholz also said he raised the issue of human rights and market access, and told Xi Jinping that any change in Taiwan's status can only happen peacefully and by mutual agreement.
