At Thursday's Cabinet session, the government approved the housing program for persons recognized as refugees in Armenia.
In the explanation of the respective decision, it is mentioned that the number of people seeking asylum in Armenia is about 270 people per year, and, due to conflicts in the region, that number increases in some years. Thus, as a result of the Syrian crisis, the number of people seeking asylum in Armenia reached 579 in 2012, and 320—in 2013. The growth trend is also evident this year—and as a result of the events taking place in Ukraine. Accordingly, during the first six months of this year, 320 people have already filed for asylum in Armenia—and 213 of whom are Ukrainian citizens.
