A Spanish court has sentenced a civilian guardsman to prison for spreading fakes.

Earlier, the convict had published on Twitter a video of an attack on a woman allegedly committed by a migrant minor. The court found that the video was filmed in China, Habr reported.

The Guardsman was sentenced to 15 months in prison for a crime against fundamental rights, in particular for insulting the dignity of people on discriminatory grounds. However, the man can avoid imprisonment unless he commits another crime and undergoes a re-education course. The Guardsman must pay a fine of €1,620, and he will also lose his right to engage in activities involving minors.

The Spaniard admitted that in July 2019 he published a post in which he unsubstantiatedly accused a Moroccan immigrant woman of assaulting her.

The court's verdict states that the man disseminated the video with a clear disregard for the truth to defame minors from other countries. The court noted that the Guardsman had verbatim linked the teenagers to violent acts and sexual harassment against a woman. The court considered the dissemination of such messages to be an increase in prejudice and stereotypes against a particular group of people, which, according to the prosecution, is in a particularly vulnerable position.

The trial against the Spaniard was initiated by the General Directorate for Children and Adolescents of the Generalitat de Catalunya, which referred the case to the Public Prosecutor's Office. During the trial, the convict agreed to delete two of his Twitter accounts.
