The British government has frozen more than 18 billion pounds ($20.5 billion) worth of assets belonging to Russian businessmen and other sanctioned individuals and companies, Reuters reported.
Frozen assets are a combination of stakes in companies and cash held in bank accounts. They do not include physical assets such as real estate, yachts, or assets held in UK dependencies such as Guernsey and Jersey.
The government has imposed sanctions on 95 percent of Russian exports to the U.K., and all Russian oil and gas imports will be stopped by the end of the year.
To date, Britain has imposed sanctions on more than 1,200 people, including prominent businessmen and prominent politicians, as well as more than 120 organizations in Russia.
While Russian assets have only been frozen, there are discussions about possible options for their seizure. Western officials say large-scale financial aid is needed to rebuild Ukraine, and the perpetrators of the invasion must do their part.
