Neither after the Sochi meeting, nor after the Washington meeting, has anything concrete changed. Both Russia and the U.S. are trying to solve not the problems between Armenia and Azerbaijan, but their own issues in the region, Harut Sasunyan, the editor of The California Courier, told NEWS.am.
He added that both Moscow and Washington are trying to show that they are the main mediators in the Armenian-Azerbaijani issues and are pursuing their own interests.
According to him, the only difference between the meetings in Sochi and Washington is that the meeting in Russia was held on the level of heads of states, and in the U.S. - on the level of foreign ministers.
He recalled that Blinken called Armenia and Azerbaijan friendly countries at the end of the last meeting in Washington, and Putin said the same thing in Sochi.
On the positive side, Sasunyan said Armenia is trying to maneuver, turning to different countries in an effort to understand where it can get assistance to resolve its issues.
"The only problem is that the presidents of Turkey and Azerbaijan often say that they will not give in to the pressure of any external forces and will do what they want, ignoring the statements of external forces.
Despite numerous meetings with Russian and U.S. leaders and despite promises, nothing concrete has changed. Neither Armenian prisoners of war have been returned nor Azerbaijan is withdrawing from the occupied territories of Armenia," he said.
