In order to reform the army, it is necessary to make military service more attractive, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan told Armenia's first Public TV Channel on Friday.
"Next year we will start the certification process in the army, as a result of which the salaries of servicemen will be at least doubled. We are talking about military education, we have already decided that after graduating from military universities and being assigned to a place of service, these servicemen will receive an apartment, which they cannot alienate until the end of their service contract, after which it will be given to them as property," Pashinyan said.
The Prime Minister said that significant work is being done to increase the involvement of women in the Armed Forces. "We announced the creation of a professional army, that we will soon adopt the program "Defender of the Fatherland," which will enable conscripts to switch to contract service after six months, receive the mentioned increased salaries and serve on the basis of this principle for at least five years. These are very deep and meaningful changes," he stressed.
He added that the government is trying to diversify the possibilities of acquiring weapons.
When asked if the problem with our partner on weapon supply was solved, the head of the Cabinet of Ministers said that it had not been solved yet and the discussions were still going on.
Pashinyan reminded that during the meeting of the government on September 29 Pashinyan said that Azerbaijan also has some success in terms of relations with our allies and tries to make sure that arms and ammunition are not supplied to Armenia. "We have cases when 100 million dollars have been paid, but the supply obligations towards Armenia are not fulfilled, including on the part of the allied states. This, of course, is a sad reality," he noted.
