U.S. intelligence has found that the UAE tried to interfere in the foreign policy of the United States, The Washington Post reported.

The publication said that U.S. intelligence compiled a classified report detailing attempts to manipulate the U.S. political system by the United Arab Emirates.

Several sources, who have seen the document, say it describes the legitimate and illegal attempts to channel U.S. foreign policy in favor of the Emirates. It is noted that such efforts to exploit vulnerabilities in the U.S. system of governance have embraced several American administrations.

The publication noted that the U.S. intelligence points to the dependence of the U.S. system on campaign contributions, susceptibility to lobbyists and weak compliance with the disclosure laws to protect against interference by foreign governments.
