Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu announced the arrest of a suspect in the attack on Istiklal Avenue in Istanbul, Anadolu reports.

He confirmed that eight people were killed and 81 injured in the attack. According to him, 50 of the injured have been discharged from hospitals, while five are in intensive care units. He also added that two of the victims were in critical condition. He noted that 21 people were detained before the suspect was arrested.

"Our assessment is that the order for the deadly terrorist attack came from Ayn al-Arab in northern Syria, where the Syrian PKK/YPG headquarters is located," Soylu said.

"The insincerity of our so-called allies, who are considered friendly and either hide terrorists in their country or feed the terrorists in the territories they occupy and send them money from their own senates, is obvious," Soylu said, adding that Turkey will soon retaliate against the attack.

Turkish Justice Minister Bekir Bozdag said surveillance footage showed a woman sitting on a bench for more than 40 minutes and then getting up one or two minutes before the explosion, leaving a bag or plastic bag behind. "There are two versions. Either that bag, there was a mechanism that exploded on its own, or someone detonated it remotely."
