German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said it will be difficult to issue a clear statement on global issues and the war in Ukraine at the G20 meeting in Indonesia later this week, Reuters reported.

"We are working very hard to ensure that we not only make clear, important statements on all the issues that affect the world together ... but also on the issues of peace and the consequences of the Russian war of aggression on Ukraine," he said during a joint news conference with Singapore's prime minister, Lee Hsien Loong.

Earlier, Politico reported that senior Indonesian politicians are urging Western leaders to make concessions on criticism of Russia at the G20 summit so as not to leave the summit without a final statement.  U.S., European, Australian, Canadian and Japanese officials are among those pressured by their Indonesian counterparts, up to and including President Joko Widodo, to show flexibility and consider using less harsh rhetoric to get Moscow to give the go-ahead for a final communiqué at the end of the meeting.
