The face-to-face meeting between U.S. President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping sent a strong signal to the rest of the world that the two leaders can maintain a relationship. “It’s a really good thing, its really important,” U.S. Trade Representative Catherine Tigh said.

“The body language was very powerful from the photos of the two leaders greeting each other and standing together. That’s a powerful signal to the rest of the world in terms of two leaders who are capable of managing a tremendously complex relationship.”

According to Tigh, further talks will continue. The two leaders have instructed their senior officials to continue communicating, and they look forward to continuing the open and frank conversations they had with their counterparts in Beijing, she said.
