French President Emmanuel Macron condemned Iran's regional policy and called for respect for French citizens detained in the country, Reuters quoted him as saying.

"I urge Iran to return to calm and a spirit of cooperation. I call it to respect regional stability and also French citizens," Macron said at the G20 summit in Indonesia.

He added that hostage-taking, which includes the French, is just as unacceptable as Iran's regional policy in the Middle East. The French president also called the actions of the Iranian military in Iraq extremely aggressive.

On November 14, Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps forces struck positions of Kurdish formations in Northern Iraq.
