Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian expressed dissatisfaction with a number of "unrealistic comments" by Azerbaijani officials regarding the IRI. In a telephone conversation with his Azerbaijani counterpart Jeyhun Bayramov, the ministers discussed relations between Tehran and Baku and issues of mutual interest, Tasnim reported.

Expressing dissatisfaction with some unrealistic statements of recent days, Amir-Abdollahian called respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of countries, as well as non-interference in their internal affairs an important and fundamental principle.

He noted that official and diplomatic channels are the best way to resolve misunderstandings and disagreements, stressing that media coverage of such issues will not help resolve them, but will help enemies exploit them.

According to him, the development of ties with neighbors, including Azerbaijan, is a priority in the Islamic Republic's foreign policy agenda, stressing the need for a comprehensive development of ties between the two countries. He also invited his Azerbaijani counterpart to join Iran's initiative to hold an event within the "3+3" mechanism, in Tehran, as a format designed to solve regional problems through diplomacy.

For his part, the Azerbaijani Foreign Minister pointed to the recent meeting of the two presidents in Astana, describing the talks and contacts between officials in Tehran and Baku as positive. Bayramov also expressed the readiness of the Republic of Azerbaijan to strengthen ties with Iran and resolve misunderstandings.

The parties also stressed the need to continue and develop ties between various sectors and institutions of the two countries in order to strengthen friendly relations and eliminate possible misunderstandings.
