Armenia is extremely interested in establishing strategic relations with Georgia, Armenian parliamentary speaker Alen Simonyan stated at a joint briefing with his Georgian counterpart Shalva Papuashvili in Tbilisi on Thursday.

According to him, the development of special good neighborly relations with Georgia is one of priorities of Armenia's foreign policy.

The parliamentarian noted that the centuries-old Armenian-Georgian friendship is based on common values and historical and cultural heritage, adding that the recently concluded meeting provided an opportunity to continue the discussions started back in Yerevan in April this year.

"We discussed various areas of bilateral cooperation: education, culture, transport, communications and so on. We discussed issues related to infrastructure projects aimed at ensuring the necessary participation in international transport and communication projects," said the head of the Armenian parliament.

Simonyan also pointed out the role of Yerevan and Tbilisi in establishing peace in the region. Nevertheless, despite Armenia's efforts towards the establishment of peace in the region Baku by its aggressive actions violates the previous agreements, the Speaker of the National Assembly noted. Azerbaijan, according to the Speaker of the Armenian Parliament, continues its maximalist aggressive rhetoric, jeopardizing the security of the whole region.

Alen Simonyan praised Georgia's steps aimed at establishing and maintaining peace and stability in the South Caucasus region.
