The Estonian government has begun urgently selecting locations for bomb shelters due to fears over an alleged Russian attack on the country, Bloomberg reported, citing Estonian Interior Minister Lauri Laanemets.

"Ten years ago, the prevailing narrative was that there would be no more conventional battles, no rockets. Just because there is no war today doesn't mean we don't need to prepare for the worst," he said.

Authorities have been examining public buildings, shopping malls and schools for suitable sites, the agency said. Since the summer, special signs - blue triangles on an orange background - have appeared on many buildings to indicate public shelters.

Laanemets said Estonia has neglected the issue of bomb shelters for 30 years, so it will "take decades" to build a network of such shelters.
