YEREVAN. – The newly appointed Ambassador of Chile to Armenia, Eduardo Escobar—whose respective diplomatic residence is in Moscow—, on Wednesday presented his credentials to President Vahagn Khachaturyan, the President's Office informs Armenian News-NEWS.am.

Reflecting on the prospects of bilateral relations, President Khachaturyan emphasized that although the intensification of Armenian-Chilean trade and economic ties has recently been noticeable, there is a significant potential for the further development of these ties. Also, the President stressed the intergovernmental and interdepartmental contacts between Armenia and Chile in terms of exchange of best practices in economy, high technology, mining, and winemaking.

The newly appointed ambassador, for his part, noted that he is ready to make efforts for multi-layered Armenian-Chilean cooperation, and the events dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Armenia and Chile next year are on his agenda. In this connection, according to the ambassador, political and interdepartmental consultations are planned with the Armenian side in order to clarify the main domains of further cooperation.

Also during the meeting, the Armenian President briefed the Chilean diplomat on the regional realities and Armenia's approaches in relations with its neighbors. President Khachaturyan emphasized that Armenia is committed to its position of normalizing relations with Turkey without preconditions and achieving peace with Azerbaijan as soon as possible.

Underscoring the establishment of peace in the region, Ambassador Escobar, for his part, stressed that Chile is definitely in favor of the principle of resolving conflicts without the use of force and will take possible steps within the international arena to contribute to the peace process.

During the talk, ideas were exchanged also on the development agendas of bilateral relations and the possibilities of mutual high-level visits.
