YEREVAN. – Armenian Central Electoral Commission Chairman Garegin Azaryan died of heart attack on Friday night.
He had been recently reelected as the CEC chairman.
Garegin Azaryan was born in Yerevan in 1961.
In 1986, graduated from the Yerevan Polytechnic Institute.
1979-1981 served in Soviet army.
1982-1986 worked at “Yerkaghluys” enterprise, first as an engineer, then as the head of the department.
1986-1992 worked at Mashtots district council executive committee as inspector, senior inspector, and head of the department.
1992-1995 “Help” LLC deputy director
1995-1996 Head of The Armenia’s Territorial Management Ministry Staff
1996-1997 Head of Yerevan, Mashtots region.
1997 worked as a senior consultant in the National Assembly.
2000-2003 Head of the department of Armenia’s Ministry of Justice State Register of Legal Entities.
From 2003 till present occupied the position of president of the Armenian Central Electoral Commission.
2008-2009 was the president of the Association of European Election Officials.
Was married and had 2 children.
