The “3+3” format is aimed at the creation in the South Caucasus region. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov noted about this on Thursday, in an interview with the Russia-24 television and the RIA Novosti agency.
"In order for the constructive direction of creation to prevail in this region, we are advancing the ‘3+3 format, which includes the three South Caucasian republics: Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, and the three big neighbors: Iran, Turkey, and Russia. The first target contact was made, we will continue," Lavrov said.
In the beginning, the leaders of Azerbaijan and Turkey took the initiative to create the "3+3" platform. Iran and Russia welcomed the idea.
But the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia announced that Tbilisi will not participate in the "3+3" regional consultation mechanism on South Caucasus.
