Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said the death toll from earthquakes in Turkey has risen to 16,170, he said Thursday during a speech in Osmaniye province broadcast by local television stations.

"There were devastating earthquakes in our country on Monday. There has been a lot of destruction. I regret to report that our death toll was 16,170. 64,194 people were affected. 6,444 buildings were destroyed," he said. The president added that all houses will be rebuilt within a year.
