The number of casualties and injured as a result of the powerful earthquake in Turkey continues to increase.

Turkish Minister of Health Fahrettin Koca said that the number of casualties has climbed to 17,406, and the number of injured—71,866, Milliyet daily reported.

An earthquake, with a magnitude of 7.7, was recorded Monday at 4:17am local time in Pazarcik region near Kahramanmaras, Turkey. There were 42 aftershocks, the strongest of which was 6.6 in magnitude. Later, another quake was recorded in the area—and with a magnitude of 7.5.

Seven days of mourning have been declared in Turkey.
