The Armenian village of Yacoubiyah, located in the north of Syria, was also affected by the earthquake that occurred on Monday. There is destruction there; the Armenian St. Anna Church was also damaged.
Catholicos Aram I of the Great House of Cilicia of the Armenian Apostolic Church was deeply saddened to learn about the ruins of Yacoubiyah village. St. Anna, being a historical church, has become a place of pilgrimage for the Armenian people, reported the Catholicosate of the Great House of Cilicia.
Aram I established contact with the Bishop Magar Ashekian, prelate of the Armenian church prelacy of Peria, and community officials, and was informed in detail about the situation of the local Armenian residents who are in difficulties after the earthquake.
