At least 24,617 people were killed and more than 80,088 injured in two strong earthquakes that shook southern Turkey on Monday, Anadolu reported citing the country's emergency management agency.

More than 166,000 search and rescue workers are currently on the ground, according to the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD).

Nearly 92,700 people have been evacuated from the regions affected by the earthquake.

In the morning of February 6 the earthquake with magnitude 7.7 occurred in the region of Pazardzhik near the town of Marash in Turkey at 04:17 local time.  About 42 aftershocks were counted, the strongest of which had magnitude 6.6. Later another earthquake with magnitude 7.5 was recorded.

Seven days of mourning were declared in Turkey.
