The European Union (EU) mission in Armenia is not directed against anyone. Artur Hovhannisyan, secretary of the ruling majority Civil Contract Faction of the National Assembly (NA) of Armenia, stated this during a press briefing in the NA on Monday,

According to the aforesaid MP, there is simply no need for directing this EU mission against anyone.

"Thanks to its diplomatic efforts, Armenia was able to come to an agreement with its EU partners on the extension of the two-month [EU] civilian mission [in Armenia]. This stems from the interests of the country itself," Hovhannisyan emphasized.

He added that Armenia conducts an active foreign policy based on its own interests.

"I have heard the narrative that we are trying to bring the confrontation between Russia and the West here, as well as that we are trying to spread it. This assumption should not be taken as a basis. The incumbent [Armenian] authorities act exclusively in the national interests of Armenia. This is a civilian mission, and it is not directed against anyone," Hovhannisyan concluded.
