An investigation has been announced against the former Minister of Defense of Armenia, Vigen Sargsyan, Armenian News-NEWS.am has learned from the Prosecutor's Office.

Sargsyan is accused of abusing official powers.

Earlier, a Yerevan court granted the request to arrest the Vigen Sargsyan.

According to law enforcement officers, in January 2018, he deliberately performed actions clearly beyond the scope of his power in the process of distribution of apartments in the building on the balance sheet of the defense ministry.

The Prosecutor's Office has instructed the body conducting the proceedings to take measures to declare Sargsyan wanted.

Vigen Sargsyan had issued a statement regarding the aforesaid accusation, stating that he is thus being politically persecuted and an open violation of human rights, as it has been openly done against all oppositionists in Armenia for years.
