For the first time in 16 years, an Israeli airline flight departed Thursday morning for Turkey, reports the Israeli portal Yedioth Ahronoth

An Israir Airbus commercial airliner with 165 passengers on board took off from Ben Gurion Airport at exactly 11:35 a.m. local time and headed for Istanbul.

The Israeli flight also carried medical supplies for the survivors.

Transport Minister Miri Regev, who was present at the ceremony, said she believes the flights will promote tourism in both countries.
