First Deputy Defense Minister, Chief of General Staff of the Azerbaijani Army Kerim Veliyev met with the Commander of the Georgian Defense Forces Major General Georgy Matiashvili.

APA reports quoting the Ministry of Defense that the official meeting ceremony was held at the general staff. The guest of honor marched in front of the guard of honor, the national anthems of the two countries were played and a memorable record was left in the "Book of Honorary Guests" in accordance with the protocol. Welcoming the guests, Colonel General K.Valiyev expressed satisfaction to see them in Azerbaijan.

Underlining that the peoples of the two countries have ties of friendship and mutual trust, the Chief of the General Staff emphasized the important role of the meetings of the heads of states in the development of cooperation between Azerbaijan and Georgia. It was noted that bilateral cooperation in the military sphere as well as other spheres is developing upwards.

Major-General Matiashvili expressed satisfaction with the visit to Azerbaijan and stressed the importance of such meetings and the expansion of interaction for strengthening bilateral relations. During the meeting issues of peace and security in the region, expansion of cooperation in military, military-technical and military-educational fields and other topics of mutual interest were discussed in detail.

The sides exchanged views on the prospects of bilateral and trilateral cooperation between Azerbaijan, Turkey and Georgia and discussed issues of increasing the intensity of joint exercises and working meetings. In conclusion the Georgian delegation visited the Combat Control Center where they met with the personnel and acquainted with the conditions created.
