Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan met with Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Al-Mikdad in Damascus as part of his visit to Syria.

Ararat Mirzoyan expressed condolences to his counterpart and the friendly people of Syria in connection with the devastating earthquake on February 6, stressing the support of Armenia and the Armenian people, Foreign Ministry press service reported. In this regard, the Armenian Minister of Foreign Affairs mentioned that the rescue detachments sent by the Armenian government were among the first to Syria, adding that three consignments of humanitarian aid from Armenia have already been sent to the regions affected by the disaster.

The Ministers of Foreign Affairs also discussed issues related to the Armenian-Syrian cooperation in bilateral and multilateral formats.

The sides noted that the relations between the two countries are based on the centuries-old friendship of the Armenian and Syrian peoples. In this regard, it was stressed that the Armenian-Syrian community plays the role of a unique bridge between the two countries.
