Azerbaijan, represented by Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, put forward a new requirement to Armenia.
"Azerbaijan strives for peace and normalization in the region in accordance with the principles of international law concerning the territorial integrity and sovereignty of countries. Armenia, on the contrary, preferred to continue its aggressive policy, preventing normalization. If Armenia really wants to achieve peace, it must adjust its course," Bayramov said at an event marking the next anniversary of Khojalu events.
The events in Khojalu (now occurred in February 1992. Nagorno-Karabakh self-defense forces informed the Azerbaijani side in advance of the operation to suppress firing points in the village and provided the villagers with a corridor. Already outside Armenian-controlled territory, the massacre of the Azerbaijani villagers who had fled the village took place. In March 1992, the former president of Azerbaijan Ayaz Mutalibov admitted that "a corridor for people to leave the village was left by Armenians" and blamed the "Popular Front" for the tragedy. However, in Azerbaijan, speculations and accusations on the subject continue unabated.
"We believe that our efforts will help end impunity for the crimes in Khojaly and other atrocities committed during the aggression against Azerbaijan. We call for justice, not revenge. There can be no sustainable peace without justice. Responsibility is a necessary element on the path of peace and reconciliation between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Khojaly is our national grief. We will never forget the victims of Khojaly and Khojaly is evidence that nothing can break the spirit of the Azerbaijani people," he said.
We should also remind that Baku denies the crimes committed by Azerbaijan in every possible way.
