Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and other G-7 leaders adopted a series of additional sanctions against Russia over the war in Ukraine at an online G-7 summit Friday marking the one-year anniversary of the conflict, The Associated Press reported.

The G-7 leaders reaffirmed their commitment to intensifying our diplomatic, financial and military support for Ukraine, increasing the costs to Russia and those who support its military efforts, and countering the negative impact on the rest of the world, especially the most vulnerable, according to their statement released by the Japanese Foreign Ministry.

The G7 countries also reaffirmed their coordinated action to further counter Russia's ability to conduct illegal aggression and pledged to prevent Russia from obtaining military equipment and technology. They also called on other countries to stop providing military support to Russia.

Kishida, as this year's G7 president, also announced that Japan would impose additional sanctions against Russia, including freezing the assets of about 120 individuals and organizations and banning the export of drones and other materials that could be used for military purposes.

Kishida noted growing concern over China's potential transfer of lethal weapons to Russia" and said Japan would work with the G7 and other countries to send a clear signal to third countries to stop supplying weapons to Russia.

The Japanese prime minister also expressed strong concern about Russian President Vladimir Putin's announcement Tuesday that Moscow would suspend its participation in the U.S.-Russian arms control treaty.
