About 5 million hectares of agricultural land in Ukraine are currently unfit for use due to mines, contamination with explosive remnants, or ongoing hostilities. Oleksandr Gaydu, the head of the Committee on Agrarian and Land Policy of the Verkhovna Rada (parliament) of Ukraine, said this, citing regional military structures, Korrespondent.net reported.

"For example, autumn crops were sown on only 4.5 million hectares, although last year these crops were sown on 7.7 hectares. It directly affects the country's food stability. Therefore, today our priority task is to create conditions for demining the lands of small and medium-sized farmers, with the help of international partners, who do not have the opportunity to do it on their own," the MP emphasized.

He added that representatives of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations plan to allocate about $50 million in 2023 for the purchase of mechanized demining equipment and the training of operators of these equipment in order to demine Ukrainian lands.
