Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan today visited the Penitentiary Service of Armenia, and got acquainted with the performance of this institution in 2022, the results of its activities, and the upcoming plans.

Also, the PM was briefed on the penitentiary building and improvement work carried out in 2022, Armenian News-NEWS.am learns from the government.

Upcoming plans for improving prison building conditions were also presented.

Currently, the work of organizing a tender for the construction of a new penitentiary is in progress. And once this penitentiary is constructed, it is planned to close four prisons operating in capital Yerevan.

In his remarks, PM Pashinyan noted that the meaning and purpose all the reforms being carried out in Armenia in the penitentiary system to define a clear standard for serving sentence in the country.
