Azerbaijani athletes will not participate in the European Weightlifting Championships held in Yerevan; a decision has been made to return them to their homeland. This was stated in a joint statement of Azerbaijan Ministry of Youth and Sports and National Olympic Committee, Azerbaijani media outlets report.
The decision was made due to an incident during the opening ceremony, when the Armenian designer Aram Nikolyan snatched the flag of Azerbaijan from the flag bearer and set it on fire.
