During the meeting in Berlin, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz discussed issues of Georgia's EU candidate status, NewsGeorgia reports.

According to the press service of the Georgian government, Garibashvili informed Scholz “about significant progress in the implementation of [12 Priorities] recommendations of the European Commission to obtain candidate status.”
“I had a very productive meeting with Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany Olaf Scholz. The conversation touched upon the progress made by Georgia in the process of joining the European Union and the need to further strengthen the very good partnership between our countries. We thank Germany for its firm support of Georgia on the path to EU integration. We believe that these relations will be strengthened thanks to the important progress that Georgia has already made,” the Georgian PM wrote on Twitter.

The press service of the German government reported that Scholz called for speeding up the fulfilling of reforms necessary to get the candidate status.

“The chancellor stressed that Germany continues to support Georgia on its path to the EU and called on the Georgian government to take the necessary steps for reforms. The recommendations of the EU Commission point the way to candidate status. He urged the Georgian government to take the necessary measures in a timely manner and with the utmost determination in the coming weeks.”

Scholz also spoke about the expansion of multifaceted cooperation with Georgia, as well as “current issues of security and European politics” and “the far-reaching consequences of the Russian aggressive war in Ukraine.”

The Chancellor stressed that Germany continues to support the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia within internationally recognized borders.
