No country makes as much efforts to achieve a just peace between Armenia and its neighbor (Azerbaijan) as France. Catherine Colonna, the French Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs, said this in the French Parliament, answering the question by a French Member of the European Parliament about what assistance France provides to Armenia.

The French FM recalled the five-way meeting—between the Prime Minister of Armenia, the President of France, the Chancellor of Germany, the President of the European Council, and the President of Azerbaijan—which was organized with the active mediation of the French president.

Also, Colonna informed about the high-level meeting which is slated for July 21 in Brussels, noting the active participation of US partners, with whom France is in close coordination

She stressed that France supports Armenia when it comes to de-escalation of tension, and recalled that she visited the region in April to help the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan reach a peaceful agreement.

Colonna noted the current EU monitoring mission in Armenia as a tool for reducing tension, which, according to her, was largely created by the efforts of France and which contributes to de-escalation of tension.

In addition, the French FM stressed that France stands with Armenia in humanitarian aid issues as well, which were discussed in Moldovan capital Chisinau on June 1, as well as in the issue of unblocking the Lachin corridor.

"It is illegal because this is what the International Court [of Justice] decided on February 22 of this year. As you can see, we [i.e. France] stand with Armenia and Armenians, Madam MP," added Catherine Colonna, summing up her remarks.
