The situation is relatively stable as of 30 minutes before this and at this moment as well; at this moment there are no shots from any weapons. Armenian Deputy Minister of Defense Arman Sargsyan told this to reporters in the parliament on Wednesday, referring to the actions carried out by the Azerbaijani army units in the direction of Yeraskh village in Armenia’s Ararat Province.

"A certain trend of tension was observed. In recent days, the Azerbaijani press—and Azerbaijan, in general—is disseminating disinformation and, as a rule, it is followed by certain [military] steps," added Sargsyan.

Referring to the two foreigners who were wounded in the aforesaid actions by Azerbaijan near Yeraskh village, Arman Sargsyan said that they are in civilian medical facilities.

When asked whether Azerbaijan was preparing the ground for a large-scale escalation of tension with this, the Armenian deputy defense minister said: "I cannot say that it will turn into large-scale actions, that some steps aimed at additional escalation are being implemented. But it is obvious that this does not contribute to the negotiation process, and causes negative consequences and harms that process. As a rule, in similar cases, after preparing the ground for a certain escalation [of tension], the [Azerbaijani] ‘signature’ seems to be the same, and again they continue to create small local problems."

Asked whether the Azerbaijanis had a trend to advance in Yeraskh, Arman Sargsyan responded: "According to the information I have, these are long-range shots, and no advance has taken place. In any case, there is no need for any panic because we live in a region, in a country that seems to have learned to live in this tense situation all the time; we must be vigilant. In any case, we are sure that our armed forces and power units give and will give a proper response if necessary. But it is not desirable to escalate [the tension], and we hope that this destructive approach by the Azerbaijani armed forces and those circles will end."

He emphasized that not only the Ministry of Defense, but also the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and all interested state agencies of Armenia were reacting to this incident.

"Constantly we provide information. By analyzing the information, it will become obvious what the real goal is. But the aim, I believe, is to create tension [by Azerbaijan]. And, thank God, we have no casualties or more serious injuries. I don't know any other details," said Sargsyan.

And regarding the readiness of the Armenian army for Azerbaijani military actions, the deputy defense minister stated as follows: "The army has the tasks set before it. And these tasks are changing according to the situation. In any case, the army is ready and obligated to properly respond to any such step."
