Syunik Province, like other provinces, is the sovereign territory of Armenia, and the latter will not allow such a thing. Deputy Foreign Minister Vahan Kostanyan of Armenia told reporters about this on Monday, responding to the remark that some analysts believe that the Russian consulate general in Syunik will be opened in order to separate Syunik from Armenia and hand it over to the Turks.

According to Kostanyan, the procedures for opening a consulate general of Russia in Syunik will be fully maintained.

"We welcome the interest and desire of partners to have a diplomatic representation in Syunik," the Armenian official added.

The idea of opening a Russian consulate general in Syunik was approved during the meeting between the leaders of Armenia and Russia in May. The Russian side later announced that this diplomatic representation may open this fall.
