Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan of Armenia received the delegation led by Nathalie Loiseau (France), Chair of the Subcommittee on Security and Defense of the European Parliament, Armenian News-NEWS.am learns from the PM's office.

The premier emphasized Armenia’ close cooperation with the European Parliament and lauded the latter’s resolution adopted on ensuring the uninterrupted operation of the Lachin corridor. Pashinyan expressed confidence that this visit of the members of the European Parliament delegation will contribute to assessing the situation in the region.

The PM added that the humanitarian crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh is worsening as a result of the illegal blockade of the Lachin corridor by Azerbaijan, as delivery of food supplies have been blocked for several days. In this context, the premier emphasized the entry of an international fact-finding mission into the Lachin corridor and Nagorno-Karabakh. Pashinyan added that Azerbaijan continues its aggressive rhetoric and ceasefire violations, which increase tension in the region.

For her part, Loiseau stressed the necessity of steps to ensure peace and stability in the region, as well as to reduce the risks of tension. In this regard, the interlocutors highlighted the activities of the European civil monitoring mission in Armenia.

Reference was made also to the possibilities of unblocking regional transport infrastructure and border delimitation. PM Pashinyan presented the positions of the Armenian side on these issues.

Thoughts were also exchanged on the course of institutional reforms being implemented in Armenia and future programs with the assistance of the EU, as well as the process of  normalizing Armenian-Turkish relations.
